1ST READING
Paul
mentions that we have a duty to be obedient to the civil authorities of
our societies in a number of different places. This calling is
necessary for there to be order in our society in general. Without such
obedience, we will be left with chaos! It is impossible to live a free
religious life in the midst of chaos. We need a certain level of order
to give society a foundation upon
which to build.
Titus 3:1-7
1 Beloved:
Remind them to be under the control of magistrates and authorities, to
be obedient, to be open to every good enterprise. 2 They are to slander no one, to be peaceable, considerate, exercising all graciousness toward everyone. 3 For
we ourselves were once foolish, disobedient, deluded, slaves to various
desires and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful ourselves and
hating one another. 4 But when the kindness and generous love of God our savior appeared, 5 not
because of any righteous deeds we had done but because of his mercy, he
saved us through the bath of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, 6 whom he richly poured out on us through Jesus Christ our savior, 7 so that we might be justified by his grace and become heirs in hope of eternal life.

GOSPEL
Gratitude
for the good things God does for us is an essential aspect of the
Christian way of life. We see it expressed here by the leper who returns
to Jesus to thank Him for healing him. If we reflect upon the reason
for this man’s return, perhaps we will begin to see that at the root of
gratitude is the willingness to humbly accept our need for help and to
welcome it when it comes, no matter
what the source of the help may be.
GOSPEL ACCLAMATION
In all circumstances, give thanks, for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus.

11 As Jesus continued his journey to Jerusalem, he traveled through Samaria and Galilee. 12 As he was entering a village, ten lepers met him. They stood at a distance from him 13 and raised their voice, saying, “Jesus, Master! Have pity on us!” 14 And when he saw them, he said, “Go show yourselves to the
priests.” As they were going they were cleansed. 15 And one of them, realizing he had been healed, returned, glorifying God in a loud voice; 16 and he fell at the feet of Jesus and thanked him. He was a Samaritan. 17 Jesus said in reply, “Ten were cleansed, were they not? Where are the other nine? 18 Has none but this foreigner returned to give thanks to God?” 19 Then he said to him, “Stand up and go; your faith has saved you.”
