SERVICE IS A PRIVILEGE
“But many who are first will be last, and the last will be first.” – Matthew 19:30
I was in a meeting with the leaders of The Feast Greenhills and The Feast Ortigas-Tuesday, and I was tearing up. I was grateful for all the selfless people who serve at our gatherings, go out of their way to listen to other people’s problems, and work hard at the special events in our district.
I asked them, “Why do you give so much in your service?”
This was their answer: “JPaul, this is who we are. It’s our privilege to serve. We are loved by God, and we want to share God’s love to others.”
I realized that if your motive for service is to be noticed, liked, or affirmed, you’ll get burned out in no time. But if you anchor yourself in the overflowing love of Jesus Christ, you will get tired physically but will be able to move forward again after you rest.
We don’t need big rewards when we serve. Because the privilege to serve is already the reward we need.
When we serve sincerely, we become more like Jesus. JPaul Hernandez (jpaulmh@yahoo.com)
Reflect: Ask yourself: Why do you serve?
Father, there are times when I lose my drive to serve You. Thank You for never getting tired of calling me back into Your arms.
St. Helena, pray for us.
