WHO ARE MY TRUE RELATIVES?

WHO ARE MY TRUE RELATIVES?

Jesus is speaking in terms of the Spirit here. He is not really concerned about the genetic answer to the question, just whether or not we are making the choices that align us with the grace of God. It is the family of faith that matters when we talk about salvation. It is whether or not we have received this gift of salvation that determines our eternal destiny.

As we seek to become disciples of Jesus, we need to make choices that align our hearts and minds with the will of God. This means letting go of our worldly desires that distract us from our eternal destiny. This means different things for different people, so we are better off not trying to compare ourselves with others but simply try to listen to the guiding voice of the Holy Spirit and get on with our own journey with Jesus.

There are as many paths to God as there are people in the world. God does not expect perfection from us, but He does expect us to give it our all. We want to do our best for Him and that is what a son or daughter wants to do for his or her parents. The challenge is to avoid the distractions and reject the temptations the devil throws at us. Being a disciple of Jesus is character forming at the very least.

As we ask ourselves what legacy we want to leave behind, let us not forget that we are called to be sons and daughters of our Father in heaven. Fr. Steve Tynan, MGL

---------- REFLECTION QUESTION ----------

Are you listening carefully to the guidance of the Holy Spirit?

Holy Spirit, help me to recognize Your voice among the multitude competing for my attention. Help me to get to know it well. Amen.
