THERE IS A TIME FOR EVERYTHING

THERE IS A TIME FOR EVERYTHING

This text from the Book of Ecclesiastes has become the lyrics of songs for a number of songwriters. The meaning of this text is something that has always fascinated me, even when I first read it as a young boy. In a world that is gradually becoming more and more “time poor,” the idea that there is still time for every purpose under heaven has certainly found its time.

Today, let us reflect on the text with the idea that God provides the time we need to process the events of our lives to our advantage. In other words, there is nothing that happens that we cannot learn something more about the grace, love, and mercy of God if we only stop and reflect properly on the event. This is one of the best things about living as a disciple of Jesus—knowing that God is with us every moment and that everything that happens has a purpose, or at least can be given a purpose precisely because He is with us.

When we experience a lack of time, it is at least partly a result of the fact that we are trying to do too many things and that, too often, we try to do them through our own strength rather than rely upon the grace of God to help us.

This leads me to my challenge for today—are you willing to discern the busyness of your life with the goal of excising those things that are unnecessary or merely distractions from the real purpose God has for you? If you are, then pray for the grace of the Holy Spirit to do it. Fr. Steve Tynan, MGL

---------- REFLECTION QUESTION ----------

God wants us to do the things that really matter for our lives. Are you with Him on this?

Holy Spirit, help me to get rid of all the distractions in my life and thus place it more fully in the path and will of God for me. Amen.

Today, I pray for: ___________________________
