GETTING THE RIGHT FOCUS

GETTING THE RIGHT FOCUS

We all have limited resources and time. If our time on earth is merely preparation for eternal life, then the question arises as to what is the best use of our limited time and resources. When the day of judgment comes, I want to be able to tell the Lord that I have used well the opportunities He has given me in this life and not squandered them by chasing all sorts of pursuits and pleasures that mean very little in terms of preparing for eternal life.

Saint Paul talks about running for a wreath that withers and fades, and his image is perfect. Athletes will train many hours a day in order to win a championship, but how long does the glory endure? It is not a bad thing to seek to be the best in the world at a particular event or thing, but does it promote the work of salvation in one’s life?

Not everything that we do will help us gain salvation, but we need to have at least a minimum focus on it as it determines whether or not we live forever with God in heaven, or we are deprived of it.

Eternal life with God is a gift, but we need to accept that gift, which has a price attached to it: discipleship. The cost of eternal life is a life of discipleship—that is, following where the Lord leads us and obeying His will. Fr. Steve Tynan, MGL

---------- REFLECTION QUESTIONS ----------

Lord Jesus, help me to be convinced that whatever the price I may have to pay for a life of discipleship is so worth it, as nothing compares with the gift of eternal life with You. Amen.

Today, I pray for: ___________________________
