WITH GOD, NOTHING PREVAILS AGAINST US

Jesus sent His Apostles on a boat and agreed to meet them on the other side of the sea. However, the boat carrying the Apostles encountered rough sailing. They were being tossed by the waves and were afraid the boat would capsize. Suddenly, Jesus appeared to them walking on water. They thought He was a ghost. Jesus revealed Himself and told them not to fear. In a way, Jesus was telling them, “I have your back!” Peter asked Jesus to command him to come to Him. Jesus agreed and Peter walked on the water. Feeling the strength of the wind, he started to sink and called on Jesus to save him. Jesus saved Peter from drowning and admonished him for his lack of faith.

Faith is basic in our relationship with God. Prayer, our way of communicating with Him, is part of that faith. In prayer, He communicates to us His will in a way that we can understand. When He asks us to do something, we ought to carry it out in faith, with or without obstacles. God’s Word is our best guide to life for He is the Author of life. He knows what is best for us.

Life is not without challenges, temptations, and distractions. Like Peter, we can be distracted and weakened by other concerns. The devil will throw before us a lot of temptations and situations that will make us doubt the Lord. The whisper of the devil will always be to strengthen our weaknesses and weaken our strengths. It will cast doubt in us and lure us not to believe God. Before we know it, we are already sinking in the sea of life. Then and only then will we remember the Lord and ask Him to “save us.”

Many saints found a response through this predicament. Prayer, more than our physical prowess or weapons, is every effective. Prayer requires humility—or recognizing our weakness and depending on God—which will clothe us and empower us. When we have that faith in God and constant communication with Him in prayer, we can overcome all obstacles. In prayer, God lets us know His will. When we know God’s will, we walk His way with Him. And when we are with God, who can be against us? Fr. Benny Tuazon

---------- REFLECTION QUESTIONS ----------

Do you prioritize prayer? How much time do you spend communicating with God through prayer?

Help me to remain focused on You, Lord, no matter what storms I may face. Amen.
