Tough Times

TOUGH TIMES

“We had been eyewitnesses of his majesty.” – 2 Peter 1:16

“You need to raise half a million pesos for the surgery,” the doctor said.

At that moment, half of me was in shock, while the other half racked my brain, thinking where I could get that amount.

My mom was diagnosed with coronary heart disease—she had three massively blocked blood vessels to be exact. If she wouldn’t undergo angioplasty, a heart attack could happen.

Friends told me a public hospital was a cheaper alternative, but patients usually wait for one to two months for a slot at the charity ward. I took my chances and went to Philippine General Hospital. The doctor confirmed my friends’ warning: I had to wait.

I was about to lose all hope when I suddenly got a call the next day from the doctor. He got my mom a slot at the charity ward and surgery could be scheduled the following week. Tears flowed the second the call ended. Only God could have done it. In that tough situation, I saw God’s majesty and experienced His miracle.

Friends, if you are going through a storm in your life now, hang in there. God will never leave you. Once the storm has passed, a beautiful rainbow of hope will come. Osy Erica (osy.erica@gmail.com)

Reflect: Can you see God’s work in your life?

Father, open my eyes so I can see You as You move in my life. Let me see the wonder of Your love. Amen.

St. Hormisdas, pope, pray for us.
