GOOD TO BETTER

GOOD TO BETTER

But you trusted in your beauty and used your fame to become a prostitute. – Ezekiel 16:15

Every person is beautiful, but we have to admit that there are others who are endowed with extraordinary looks. For many of them, their beauty becomes a ticket to fame—as a commercial model, a movie actress, or a beauty queen.

We know of people who use their beauty as opportunities to advocate worthwhile causes. Some even personally and directly help others using their own resources that resulted from their beauty and fame.

But there are others, too, who use their good looks negatively. When you seduce a married person, manipulate others, or put others down to get ahead, then you prostitute your gift, and that’s where the problem begins. That’s when beautiful and famous become ugly and notorious. The supposedly good thing leads to destruction.

It’s the same with most things like knowledge, power, or wealth, which should be good but can be used for evil depending on the person wielding it.

Let’s continue to desire and receive good things.

And may good things lead to better things—and not the other way around. Alvin Barcelona (apb_ayo@yahoo.com)

Reflect: Think of the good things you have: talent, treasure, education, position, career, business, etc. Do these things lead you to better things?

Dear Lord, may I use Your gifts for the betterment of others. Amen.

St. Maximilian Mary Kolbe, priest and martyr, pray for us.
