I HAVE DECIDED TO FOLLOW JESUS
There are many who begin a life of discipleship and then, for one reason or another, fall away and give up. Jesus tells us that it is not easy to follow Him—it requires great commitment. Anything worth doing in life will call for a similar commitment. Are we ready to forsake the ways of the world and follow where Jesus leads us?
One of the saddest things I have seen in life is when people who have given much in the service of God’s Kingdom walk away from their commitment to follow Jesus as though they had never been a disciple at all. Honestly, the process by which this comes about in a person’s life is a complete mystery to me. I cannot but think that the person must have given in to a big deception of the devil somewhere along the way.
Today is the feast of Saint Jerome, known for his love of the Word of God. “Ignorance of the Scriptures is ignorance of Christ” is a phrase that we learn from him. This is true. If we want to protect the work that God has done in our lives, then there is no better way than continuing to read and meditate upon His Word every day. We do not have to spend a long time doing this; in fact, it is far better to be faithful to a short time every day than a long time once in a while. It is our daily habit of reflecting on God’s Word that forms our hearts and minds in His ways. This is what will save us from the lies of the devil and his minions. Fr. Steve Tynan, MGL
---------- REFLECTION QUESTION ----------
How often do you read the Scriptures? If it is not every day, then try to find a few minutes daily to reflect on His Word. It will eventually make a big difference in your relationship with God.
Holy Spirit, help me to prioritize time with God’s Word every day. Amen.
Today, I pray for: ________________________
